Objective Fulfilled.

Post Secret SDSCPA was a senior exhibition project. It could have been much better than it has been, but everything is still considered a success.

From the beginning, people questioned why a project like this was relevant to the student population of SCPA. And although I answered them with adequate response, I think this would serve as a better explanation:

The purpose of Post Secret SDSCPA was to relieve some of the stress we encounter as young people. Everyday, we deal with school, family, friends, work, the ever-impending future, and the recurring thoughts of the past. Not all of those things impact us negatively, but it is highly unlikely that someone experiences a perfect balance of living as a high school student. Because of all the responsibilities we take up, we rarely have time for ourselves.

So many things build up within that no one else ever knows about. And sometimes, all we need is for someone to listen to what is on our minds without expecting anything in return. I wanted people to know that someone is always willing to listen. Even though it is not always a loved one or a best friend, someone is waiting for you to open up and confess what you have been carrying inside. If you feel like those closest to you will not be able to listen to you for any reason, try reaching out to a peer counselor or the school psychologist. And if your situation has escalated to the point of self-harm, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is available 24 hours a day at 1.800.SUICIDE. Remember that you are never alone.

This project could not have been possible without the inspiration from the real PostSecret project. Look under the “Friends” sidebar for links to the official website and the blog with secrets that are updated weekly. If the school version of secret submission affected yours views of your fellow students, I can guarantee that the original PostSecret will change the way you look at the people living in this world.

No one deserves to be ignored. No one deserves to feel pain because of what they harbor within themselves. If Post Secret SDSCPA was able to relieve anyone from the burdens of adolescence, then its objective was fulfilled in my eyes.

Thank you for letting down your guard down and opening up to someone you may not know. Thank you for sharing the things that you would not let others hear before.
Thank you for making this project a success.
